    The assessment of this skill is fundamental since in school the information that students learn comes through their eyes. It is very necessary to verify that at this level there are no difficulties that may cause problems in learning.


    This test is carried out with both eyes at the same time, so visual acuity in binoculars is assessed.

    The ability to track is the ability of our eye to follow a moving object. It is essential for academic tasks as students need to quickly and accurately direct their eyes to the work they are doing. This test has been evaluated in such a way that the student must follow an object along the screen and besides the movement of the eye it is necessary to pay attention to the modifications that will be proposed.

    Two things are necessary for a good reading:
    The saccadic movements: they are "jumps" that the eye gives to move from one point to another.

     

    In the case of the reading it would be to move the look along a line or to move to the next line.


    Fixation: it is produced when the eyes stop, and it is the moment in which the information enters.

    Binocular Vision

    Binocular vision occurs in three situations:


    - when the eyes move in the same direction.
    - when the eyes move in opposite directions. This is the case with divergence (outward) and convergence (inward) movements.
    - when we have two images taken from different positions, our brain is able to provide that image with depth giving us the sensation of a three-dimensional image.

    As mentioned above, we present binocular vision when images from both eyes are merged into one. Convergence is the coordinated movement of the eyes to a close point of vision while maintaining the fusion of images. In other words, it is the ability to bring the eyes together in response to an increasingly close stimulus.

     

    A child who has no problem with this ability can follow an object that approaches his nose with both eyes at the same time while maintaining a single image.

    Divergence

    We say that our eyes perform the movement of divergence when they move together in a coordinated manner to position themselves at a point of distant vision while maintaining a single image. This movement is performed by the students when they move from looking at their notebook to the blackboard.

     

    Ineffective divergence can result:
    - Double vision in the distance.
    - Itchy eyes when looking from afar.
    - Headache.
     

    Deep Vision

    Depth vision or stereopsis is the ability to accurately perceive the depth and relief of objects. As already mentioned, it is related to binocular vision, since we also see two images, each with one eye, between which there is a certain separation that creates the 3D effect. This ability helps us to calculate how far away objects are from us.

     

    Today, the importance of knowing whether or not students have this ability can be motivated by the use of new technologies. Films, reports or video games appear in our society that can be seen in three dimensions. Not possessing this ability does not influence our lives, since our brain adapts to the situation.
     

    Color Vision

    Color vision is the ability of our eye to discriminate the range of colors.


    Color codes are used in the educational environment to teach students; it is very important to know if there is any alteration, especially in the early stages of school.

     

    Color blindness is a difficulty in the appreciation of colors: red, green or blue. Its incidence is very low, although statistically it is more common in men than in women, and difficulties in red or green are more frequent than difficulties in blue.

    For teachers

    Often teachers find themselves with students who do not learn as they should and do not find a clear explanation. Therefore, having tools such as this at their disposal allows them to rule out or identify the origin of the same and make referrals to the relevant experts in order to prevent possible learning difficulties.

    The family trusts their children in the school and knowing that the centre takes care of getting to know them in depth and introducing screening tools that allow for the early detection of possible visual alterations is a guarantee of the good work of the school.
